On Problematic Issues Related to the Protection of Water Bodies from Pollution

In the face of growing environmental threats related to water pollution, ensuring the protection of water bodies is becoming increasingly important. Water resources are a strategically vital component of ecosystems and socio-economic development; however, the existing legal framework encounters several challenges that require improvement. The aim of this study is to identify current issues in the protection of water bodies in the Russian Federation, analyze prosecutorial oversight in this area, and develop proposals for legislative improvements. The research examines key aspects of law enforcement practices, highlights deficiencies in existing regulations, and evaluates their implementation mechanisms.

The scientific and practical significance of this work lies in its potential to contribute to legislative improvements, enhance the effectiveness of prosecutorial oversight, and develop more efficient mechanisms for water body protection. As a result of the analysis, legal inconsistencies in the implementation of the Water Code of the Russian Federation and other regulatory acts were identified. Examples from prosecutorial practice illustrate the difficulties in holding responsible parties accountable and addressing pollution consequences. The authors propose specific measures to strengthen the legal protection of water bodies, including legislative amendments aimed at closing gaps and improving supervisory activities.
