The Impact of International Energy Law on the Development of Energy Law in Nigeria

Abstract

The article analyzes aspects of international energy law; reveals the concept of "international energy law", which is defined as a system of principles and norms governing relations between states in the field of energy, namely the relations that develop in the process of regulatory, investment and economic activities of subjects of public law related to production, transportation, mining, exploration, storage, processing, trade, distribution and consumption of energy resources; the object, subject, method of legal regulation of international relations are listed; the subjects, sources and principles of international energy law are indicated; the importance of energy issues in the international arena is emphasized; the circumstances that led to the emergence of international energy law are named; The article describes the Energy Charter, which is a political declaration of intent to promote cooperation in the field of energy between the West and the East, and the Energy Charter Treaty, an agreement concerning cooperation between governments in the energy sector and covering the energy supply chain, energy products and energy-related equipment, as fundamental documents in the field of international energy law; The relevance of the issues of organizational interaction of states to ensure energy security is discussed; the influence of international energy law on the development of energy law in Nigeria is investigated.
