Prison Subculture as a Factor in the Formation of Extremist Ideas in Russian Society

The most important task facing Russian humanities is to study the logical connections between various processes and phenomena in subcultures that influence modern society. These include the customs and traditions of the criminal prison subculture. The prison subculture in every possible way encourages asocial behavior patterns in correctional institutions; it is focused on supporting the ideas of illegal activity, which it spreads among ordinary citizens. By definition, it is incompatible with the implementation of constitutional rights of citizens, but has a significant impact on the everyday life of Russian society.
The purpose of the research is to analyze the manifestations of the prison subculture in the process of its gradual integration into public consciousness, identified among typical bearers of such a culture. To achieve this goal, the authors of the article need to solve the following tasks: to define the concept of «prison subculture» (in the context of the general cultural concept of «subculture»); to consider the characteristic and special features of the prison subculture; to provide examples of the formation of extremist ideas in Russian society by bearers of the prison subculture.
The scientific significance of the work lies in the fact that, based on the analysis of factual material, the main trends occurring among the bearers of the prison subculture are revealed. The practical significance of the work lies in the fact that employees of correctional institutions, representatives of government agencies will be able to use the theoretical justifications and conclusions of the authors of the article in their activities. They can help competent specialists in identifying the mechanisms of the impact of the prison subculture on convicts; understand the degree of asocial potential of a particular community; identify the negative phenomena of the prison subculture present in the lives of ordinary citizens.
The authors come to the conclusion that the introduction of prison subculture into mass culture leads to the penetration of its norms into the everyday life of citizens and forms a specific language of hostility and aggression in the culture of everyday life. At present, there is a situation in which the prison subculture begins to absorb and integrate the «cultural codes» of other extremist movements. Equating the entire prison subculture to the extremist movement «AUE» leads not only to increased confrontation between the administration of correctional institutions and the contingent of prisoners.
